How To Choose A Free Blog Hosting Service

Posted on 16. May, 2009 by Casper in Blogging

When choosing a free blogging site it will quickly become obvious, as there is so many to chose from. There are so many options it can feel overwhelming.
There are several large blog-hosting sites such as Blogger and Blogspot, that dominates most of the blogosphere, but there is also numurous smaller sites that you can choose from.
So, what blog hosting site should you chose? Well, the answer is purely based on what your priorities are.

Signing up with a large and well known blogging site will be a good idea due to the reliability. The chances of any crashed is much lower when having an established brand host your blog.
Although you might not have to lie awake all night, fearing your blog has disappeared because of some technical glitch, there is some reasons you might want to choose
a smaller, newer hosting site. The best reason I can think of, for choosing a small company as a blog host, as that many bloggers tend to relish that fact, that the underdog has a fairly strong chance for success.
Personally, whenever I come across a blogspot (or similar) hosted blog, I always tend to put on my “sceptical glasses”. The reason is that any moron can have a blog on blogspot (and it sometimes feels like any moron actually has one)
I am easier to convince staying on a blog that is hosted by a smaller blog hosting service.

Although this post i about choosing a free blog hosting service, I will strongly recommend that you get your own domain name and some hosting for this. It doesn’t have to be expensive (you can read Christopher Ross’ post on how much money it cost to set up a blog with you own domain name here: Can you put up a website for less than $100?), but it will definitely show that you are more serious about you blog. It will also give you full control when tihe time to monetize it comes :)
